ORGANISERS of renowned music festival T in the Park have paid back £50,000 of a Scottish Government grant which had been awarded to help the festival relocate.

DF Concerts – which runs the event – repaid the amount after confirming in November that the Strathallan Castle event would not take place this year. The conditions of the funding included a stipulation that T in the Park is held in Strathallan each year.

In a statement, DF Concerts paid tribute to the festival’s patrons but acknowledged that it “needed to take a break” as the conditions being put upon the event were “simply not workable”.

The firm was handed a £150,000 government grant after the festival was forced to move from Balado in Kinross two years ago.

DF Concerts have since announced a new three-day festival to be held in Glasgow in July, as an alternative to T in the Park. The new festival – which has been called TRNSMT – revealed plans to hold the event at Glasgow Green.

A Scottish Government spokesman said: “In line with the grant conditions, DF Concerts have now repaid the £50,000 following its decision to not stage the 2017 event.”
