SCOTLAND’S Minister for Higher Education, Further Education and Science, Shirley-Anne Somerville met computing science pupils at a cyber security event for Scottish Apprenticeship Week.

Pupils from St Kentigern’s Academy, Blackburn, and Armadale Academy, West Lothian, were invited to join the minister and BT workers at BT’s Edinburgh headquarters to hear about the wide variety of apprenticeships available with the communications company in Scotland, as well as trying their hand at cyber security challenges.

The event was hosted by BT, who announced plans to create 145 new apprenticeship and graduate jobs in Scotland last week, and Skills Development Scotland (SDS).

Somerville said: “Modern Apprenticeships (MA) are an important support for people who are looking to access rewarding careers and high quality jobs. The Scottish Government is committed to supporting 30,000 new MA opportunities annually.”
