MORRISONS supermarkets' charity foundation has donated £15,000 to an Edinburgh organisation which is helping people with learning disabilities.
Upward Mobility helps people with additional support needs to learn new skills, make new friends and become more independent.
The donation will help the charity build a fully accessible art studio at their premises at St Margaret’s House, London Road.
The Morrisons Foundation was set up in 2015. Most of its funding from the sale of single-use carrier bags.
The cheque was presented on behalf of the Morrisons Foundation by Gillian Lawson, Community Champion at Morrisons Portobello Road, who said: “We were delighted to help a local charity which supports people with learning disabilities.”
Kate Tregaskis from Upward Mobility said: “The donation from the Morrisons Foundation will make a huge difference to what we can do. The accessible art studio will host painting, drawing, sculpture and design workshops nearly every week for our 140 students.
"We have been bowled over by the Foundation’s support and would like to say a big thank you for supporting our work.”
Charities are encouraged to visit www.morrisons foundation.com to find out how to apply for funding.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
