CHILDREN from a Glasgow primary attended an event to learn about the life cycle of bees.

Young Enterprise Scotland (YES) taught Castleton Primary School about entrepreneurship and nature, with bee suits allowing them to get up close with the bees.

The organisation’s base at Rouken Glen park in Giffnock has one live bee hive which can house up to 40,000 bees at the one time.

The aim of the bee hives is to encourage young people to learn more about the environment whilst also being able to sell the honey they produce, to fund more good causes.

Kirsty Wilkie, teacher at Castleton primary school, said: “Outdoor learning is becoming increasingly popular as it allows children to learn in different ways.

Geoff Leask of YES said: ‘Bees are the original entrepreneurs – it’s not just about meeting the bees, it’s about their life cycle, how they produce the nectar and the entrepreneurial skills needed to sell the honey.”
