THE National Trust for Scotland’s figures for members cancelling after their crass appointment of Neil Oliver are very probably a spiralling number as Direct Debit membership renewals, like my own, start to fail!

I have been a life long member of the NTS, as I looked on the charity as one of support for Scotland’s heritage. Lesley Riddoch’s article (Why Neil Oliver is not the biggest problem for NTS, The National, January 4) makes a very good point on land ownership, so in some ways Neil Oliver has done me a favour by accepting the NTS role, opening my eyes to their elitist stance and saving me and my husband the annual membership fee!
