THE article Brexit: What is Going On? (The National, February 14) was useful but doesn’t quite hit the mark in my view.

Usefully, it brings together the irrefutable facts as we the electorate are allowed to see them. However, it misses the only logical explanation of what is really behind Brexit, and that is that the only winners will be those who make their money by breaking economies. We’re like the squares on a real-life Monopoly board but with no get-out-of-jail-free card.

To the eternal shame of those Tory, Labour and other MPs and MSPs that put party loyalty above national loyalty with regards to Brexit, we are being driven towards a hard Brexit and cliff edge, we have been from the outset. The harder the Brexit, the more those behind Brexit will win. There has never been any intention of getting a good deal.

In a little over a year from now, and most likely even sooner if the current posturing by the Brexiteers is anything to go by, we – the vast majority – will be in a crumpled heap at the base of that cliff whilst the very small band that engineered Brexit will be laughing at us all the way to their bank.
