WHAT a start to the week for First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, if my reading is anything to go!
Luckily I am sure she has a much busier schedule than me, and more to do with her time than browse through The National and its stable companion The Herald.
A real pile of venom for Nicola, starting with Morrissey slagging her off during his Hydro gig in Glasgow (Morrissey concert jibe at Sturgeon fires backlash, The National, February 19).
Then the friend of a Huntly letter-writer crowing his anti-indy opinions by reporting how two Scottish Government baby boxes had been found in a wheelie bin – more testimony, according to him, as to rural Aberdeenshire disliking Nicola (Letters, February 19).
Then over to The Herald and the usual anti-SNP rant from columnist David Torrance, who despite turning out a biography of the First Minister is apparently loath to offer her the teeniest praise.
If this Monday is typical, Nicola must be one tough girl to get through her week and still manage to look like there is more sunshine than cloud, and politics really isn’t as bad as some folk paint it.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
