I HAD to look twice at an article on the BBC news website where it claimed that they had launched an online game – iReporter – that taught school children how to detect fake news.

This included knowing who to trust and how to check a story. Despite the mainstream press – and in particular the BBC – focussing on the role of Russia Today as a government-influenced media unit; it’s ironic that the BBC have decided to set themselves up as an organisation which tells school children how to detect fake news.

The BBC’s reputation for delivering fair and balanced news coverage was totally destroyed during the independence referendum of 2014, as highlighted by the book and documentary London Calling – How the BBC Stole the Referendum.

The current output from the BBC – especially BBC Scotland’s news team – has continued to deteriorate. It is indeed ironic that they are now promoting themselves to school children as some arbiter on fake news.
