GIVEN the recent turn of events that has seen record-breaking crowds attend pro-independence marches and events across the country, the Edinburgh Yes Hub is looking to continue the positive momentum with a rally in Inch Park on the south side of the capital this Saturday.
The event will take place between 1pm and 5pm and will feature some excellent speakers, including The National columnist Paul Kavanagh and his Wee Ginger Dug.

Among the other speakers will be Professor Morag Kerr, Colin Fox, David Mackenzie and a representative of English Scots For Yes. There will also be music and other entertainment.
The National can reveal that the rally will feature an exhibition of some exciting new information about the Jacobites. Author and veteran indy campaigner Stuart McHardy said: “There is a hand-written document in Edinburgh Castle that delineates the British Army occupation of Scotland in the decade after Culloden.
“The Stennis Historical Society – formed from a Radical Scottish History class I taught at the Edinburgh Yes Hub has helped to transcribe this document and we are putting up some of the pages and a map. Copies will be available of the 429 different British Army cantonments in the period. We will also have a picture of a Jacobite Army sword blade that said – as they all did – ‘Prosperity to Schotland [sic] and no Union’.

“Professor Murray Pittock is currently working on a book on The Occupation, which should include some of this info as well as a lot more from the period.
“What is becoming abundantly clear is that in both the ’15 and the ’45 Scottish Jacobites were fervently anti-Union.”
Edinburgh Yes Hub told us: “We have a great line up of speakers and musicians, as well as the usual selection of stalls, including a tombola. We’ll also have some entertainment for the younger indy folk with a bouncy castle and face painter.”
Also this week, with 30 per cent of children in the UK now born into poverty, South Lanarkshire Greens are hosting a free event tomorrow with some top speakers to explore the issue of child poverty,
There are 30 or so organisations working in the field of poverty reduction just in East Kilbride alone and all are invited.
Darren McGarvey, author of Poverty Safari, and the Poverty Alliance’s Get Heard project, will discuss the impact of child poverty and what more can be done to ensure people with lived experience of the issue influence those making decisions on it.
The event is at the Village Centre, 12 Maxwell Drive, East Mains, from 7.30pm All welcome, Eventbrite booking essential.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
