THE latest in our not-to-be-missed National Roadshows will take place in Peterhead on Tuesday evening.
For those of our readers who have not yet been able to attend one of these events, and many hundreds, if not thousands, have already done so, the format is quite simple.
National editor Callum Baird and our columnist Paul Kavanagh give their talks and then the Wee Ginger Dug steals the show by lying on his ribs out front or mingling with the audience to a get a pat on the head.
As Roadshow attendees will testify, the Dug is also happy to pose for group pictures and selfies.
The Dug knows his importance to the campaign for independence and it has to be said that his human amanuensis Paul Kavanagh is becoming an increasingly important figure in the Yes DIY movement - he did, after all, come up with its name.
Therefore please be aware that Paul is currently running his annual fundraiser on the Wee Ginger Dug blog - please help as he needs to keep the Dug fed.
Our editor Callum Baird is happy to tell readers about our plans and to answer any questions about The National which has now been the only Scottish daily newspaper supporting independence for 44 months.
There will also be an open discussion about independence, the Yes DIY movement, and just about any subject pertaining to these two matters.
The event is on Tuesday from 2pm will take place at the Harbour Lights venue.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
