ALTHOUGH not strictly part of the Yes movement, the members of Women Against State Pension Inequality (Waspi) have made common cause with many independence campaigners as they protest against the injustice visited upon them by the Tory Government at Westminster.

Now a new Waspi group is to meet in Ayrshire and, in solidarity with their very just cause, we at the Yes DIY Hub are happy to announce its formation.

Cunninghame Waspi is a re-formed group of Waspi activist women who will hold an inaugural meeting on Monday, July 30, from 6-8pm in The Wheatsheaf Inn, 70 Portland Street, Kilmarnock.

The founder members of Ayrshire Waspi, Ann Fraser, Johann Hobson, Susan Bolland and Maggie Wallace have set up the new group.

They say this development follows the ongoing campaign delays resulting from national board member disputes.

The group says: “The campaigning group will be active in the area and encourage any 1950s-born women who have been affected by the accelerated changes to state pension ages to fight the Department of Work and Pensions by starting a maladministration complaint.

“Support and help in completing the complaint process will be available to current and new members born in the 1950s.”

Cunninghame WASP adds that all 1950s-born women who have been affected will be made most welcome to their first meeting, as detailed above.
