THIS is a last-minute reminder for what should be a fascinating event tonight.
Women for Independence Glasgow, in partnership with the Women’s Centre Glasgow, is presenting Green councillor Kim Long’s Confessions of a Glasgow City Councillor – The Inside Story.
Cllr Long, the first Green councillor in Glasgow’s east end, will talk about her role as a local councillor, the organisation of the council – now led for the first time ever by the SNP – and how to encourage more local participation.

There will then be an informal question and answer session with Cllr Long, who also stood unsuccessfully for election as an MP in 2015.
The event will be held in the North West Woman’s Centre at 17 Shawpark Street, Glasgow. All women are invited and refreshments will be provided.
Meanwhile, tomorrow in Edinburgh, there will be a Q&Ar session on European issues with MPs and MSPs, hosted by the European Movement in Scotland.
The Scottish Arts Club at 24 Rutland Square will host the event. Tickets can be obtained via Eventbrite.
Speakers include Ben Macpherson, SNP MSP for Edinburgh Northern and Leith, the Minister for Europe, Migration and International Development; Daniel Johnson, Labour MSP for Edinburgh Southern; Alex Cole-Hamilton, LibDem MSP for Edinburgh Western; Cllr Graham Hutchison, Conservative member for Almond Ward, and Evelyn Weston, Edinburgh Greens co-convenor.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
