THE Sunday papers have had extensive coverage of the Alex Salmond issue whereas The National is rather shy to let us join in. I think both Alex’s regular spot on Russia Today and the crowdfunding for his legal costs show a powerful man displaying his power. I support him on many things but it is not unconditional support.
It is the same kind of behaviour that he showed in 2014 when he insisted that an independent Scotland would keep the pound, the Queen as head of state and membership of Nato rather than saying at least two of these could be decided by the people in time after indy. This an observation many of us made, and to learn from it is essential to winning the increased support we need to win our independence.
The case will highlight the desperate need for clear guidelines at all places of work for acceptable behaviour, a safe and reliable complaints procedure and the consequences for the breaking of those guidelines. These are long overdue and it is good to see moves to bring them in to Holyrood by the First Minister. Well done Nicola. You have our support in making your place of work a safer place to be for everyone.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
