THE PROCLAIMERS: THIS IS THE STORY, BBC2, 9pm
PUNK in an Aran sweater is how Matt Lucas describes his favourite band The Proclaimers.

In this brilliant programme, David Tennant sits down with the twins for an interview and lots of chuckling anecdotes and memories.

Fans of their music will be glad to hear this show is indeed about the music, and doesn’t really wander off into biographical details.

We learn how the public, and the industry, were shocked at the idea of singing in a Scottish accent, but Charlie and Craig say they couldn’t see the point in singing about things relevant to them in a fake, mid-Atlantic accent.

And famous faces give us their memories. Christopher Brookmyre recalls how some DJs banned 500 Miles as they worried “havering” was “some sort of sexual perversion”, and Nicola Sturgeon says Letter From America came out at the time she was getting involved in politics and caught precisely the mood which was pushing people towards independence.

FARGO, C4, 10pm
LAST week’s episode threw things out of kilter, whipping us away from the icy bleakness and into sun-kissed California for a flashback. I’m glad we’re back in the familiar drab weirdness of Fargo.

Poor Emmit is under no illusions now about shady VM Varga. His breezy manner has dried up now he knows how his poor old lawyer died. No longer can he keep being pally and relaxed with his new “business partners” and insisting politely that he’ll pay back his loan if they’d just please vacate his office and take their heavies with them. It’s dawning on the luckier Stussy brother that it’s his turn to experience some misfortune.

And there’s a nice surprise for those still enchanted by Series 1: Billy Bob Thornton makes a brief comeback as the narrator of this episode.
