TRAVEL MAN, C4, 8.30pm

HOW I love Richard Ayoade. He is so dry and sarcastic, and so this series is perfect for him as it sends him off to a wonderful city where he must sample its delights and wonders in a hectic 48 hours. Anyone else wold be dazed and excitable, but not Ayoade.

Kicking off the new series tonight he’s in Rome, and is joined by Matt Lucas, a comedian with a very different style ... so how will this odd couple enjoy their short break in the Eternal City?

Anyone looking for proper, historical, ancient Rome should look away now, as the duo ignore dusty churches and museums, preferring to zoom around the streets in old vintage Fiats, whizzing by all the main sights like the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain, to then go shopping and do a bit of dressing up.

It looks like brilliant fun. When In Rome, do as the comedians do.

UNREPORTED WORLD, C4, 7.30pm

THIS hard-hitting documentary series is always disturbing, and always a revelation. It surely deserves a prime-time slot; 7.30pm still seems like the hour for silliness and soaps.

But forget the timing. Indeed, how many of us watch programmes at their allotted hour when we can easily record or get them on catch-up?

Tonight we look at violence in India and, for once, it’s not sexual or religiously motivated. Those attacks are the ones which seize the headlines, but there is also terrible violence carried out in the name of meat-eating.

It is illegal to slaughter cows for food in India. Nonetheless, an illegal trade in beef has sprung up and this has prompted some Hindus to form vigilante groups so they can attack those involved in the business. To complicate matters further, those people are often Muslim.

At least 30 people have been killed, and the violence is reaching beyond a dispute about meat, as it pits Hindu against Muslim.
