ELAINE C SMITH’S BURDZ EYE VIEW, STV, 8pm
I STILL tell my friends about that crazy time in the summer when I went on a short holiday to Dumfries and Galloway and came back with a tan. We also had a balcony in our holiday cottage. And we sat on that balcony, in the sun, sipping wine … I did not know that such sun-kissed and exotic things could be achieved on a Scottish holiday!

This series reminds me all over again that there are so many places to be explored in Scotland if you want a jaunt, a day out or a full holiday – although the tan can never be guaranteed.

Tonight, Elaine C Smith takes us to the Outer Hebrides, to the isles of Lewis and Harris. If you are lucky enough to catch a sunny day there you can stand on their white beaches (with an anorak on) and imagine yourself on a tropical island.

She’s there to perform her show on Stornoway, but she makes time to visit a traditional croft, have a go at some weaving and cook up a bit of black pudding.

THE YEAR IN MUSIC 2017, BBC2, 9pm
ASK anyone what the best year in music was and they’ll probably name something from the glory days of the 1970s.

If you asked me, it’d be something from the 80s when the Pet Shop Boys and The Smiths were at their peak. No-one, I’m quite sure, will be mentioning 2017 as a great year in the decades to come.

However, these review shows are obligatory at this time of year, and so Claudia Winkleman and Clara Amfo walk us through the year’s musical highlights.

As well as pop clips we get some interviews with Liam Gallagher, Stormzy, Jo Whiley and Foo Fighters, and there will be an exclusive performance from Rag’n’Bone Man.

Alongside the musical nostalgia, the show will also announce the winners of this year’s BBC Music Awards.
