DR Suzannah Lipscomb concludes her look at the relationship between Tsar Nicholas II and his wife the Empress Alexandra by examining how their decisions led to widespread public anger and contributed to the revolution that would bring a brutal end to his reign. But even during their fall from grace, their love letters suggest their own relationship remained strong – and as Suzannah discovers, history has been kinder to the couple than their reputations in their own lifetimes might suggest.

SCI-Fi drama set in a parallel world where synthetic humanoids try to live side by side with real people. As Leo struggles to come to terms with being human, Mattie takes him back to the Hawkins’ home, where a surprise night out allows them to confront their feelings for each other. Laura (Katherine Parkinson) is determined to uncover the truth about the too-secret Operation Basswood and tries to enlist Dr Neil Sommer’s help, only for things to take an unexpected turn. Joe (Tom Goodman-Hill) reluctantly decides to help Karen with Sam, and Niska receives a mysterious message.

Ambulance, BBC 1, 9pm

CONTROLLER Sui has to prioritise stabbing victims and reports of drowning, over patients like Betty, whose daughter says she’s fine but needs help getting her up having fallen to the floor. Ambulance crew Tash and Marek are about to take their meal break when a general broadcast comes over the radio. There are reports of a major traffic accident in central Birmingham, and over the course of 90 minutes, a 16-strong ambulance team and specialist trauma crews work alongside police and the fire service to treat the victims of the worst crash they have seen in more than 20 years. Running the operation on the ground is Incident Commander James, whose job it is to coordinate 114 emergency service personnel. But with so many resources tied up at the crash, calls stack up in the control room.
