PHOTOGRAPHS of some of Scotland’s most famous faces will soon be on display in a new Borders exhibition.

Portraits of stars including Ewan McGregor, Irvine Welsh and John Byrne will be shown during the Baillie Gifford Scottish Borders Book Festival 2018 in Melrose, from Monday until June 24.

The exhibition will showcase the work of photographer Lloyd Smith over a 20-year period in which he was commissioned by the Edinburgh Film and International festivals and The Herald.

Portraits of non-Scottish stars Muhammad Ali, Richard E Grant and Jennifer Saunders are also set to go on display. All photographs will be up for sale as a limited edition, with funds raised to go to the Margaret Kerr palliative care unit at the Borders General Hospital.

Speaking about the project, Lloyd explained that after his mother passed away from cancer last September he wanted to do something to help other people nearing the end of their lives.

He said: “The work the Margaret Kerr Unit does is incredible, the support it gives to patients and families going through an end of life illness is second to none and most units like this struggle with funding, so I wanted to do what I could to help.”
