The Murder of Rhys Jones: Police Tapes, STV, 9pm
IT should have been just another Wednesday night in 2007 as Liverpool mum Melanie Jones did some wallpapering. Then she discovered her son Rhys, 11, had been shot on the way home from football practice, and nothing was the same again.

The story was dramatised as TV drama Little Boy Blue, and now there’s a chance to see what really happened. Police were left with a seemingly impenetrable case. However, certain names repeatedly cropped up, so the authorities planted bugs in gang members’ homes.

Susanna Reid gains access to the recordings, where those responsible admit their part and the lengths they would go to cover up the crime. Rhys’ parents, Mel and Steve, also discuss the impact of this shocking crime.

Humans, Channel 4, 9pm
THE revelation of Stanley and Anatole’s true intentions puts the Hawkins family in danger. With Mia speaking at the commission, Laura must do everything she can to stop an awful attack.

Leo and Mattie return to the Elster house where Leo comes to understand a painful truth – but Mattie has a secret that could knock their fledging relationship off course. Niska continues her mysterious journey to Wales, where she must defy all her instincts to survive. Sci-fi drama, starring Katherine Parkinson.

Mock the Week, BBC Two, 10pm
THIS is Dara O Briain’s 17th series as host of the TV favourite, and he’s endured no end of put-downs since Mock the Week began in June 2005. Expect more of the same in this week’s edition as panellist Hugh Dennis (yes, like Dara he’s appeared in every episode) looks back on another eventful week in news and politics, with the help of fellow comedians James Acaster, Tom Allen, Ari Eldjarn, Ed Gamble and Ellie Taylor. Once more, stand-up and improvisation are the name of the game.
