The Crystal Maze, C4, 8pm
RICHARD Ayoade hosts the game show, inviting a team calling themselves the London Girls to take his golden hand and tackle physical, skill, mystery and mental challenges. Although the presenter has a tendency to mock his own show, he is clearly aware the people taking part take it seriously – although this week’s bunch prove rather rowdy and out-of-control. Can Richard keep them in line as they try to win the elusive crystals that will buy them time in the Crystal Dome at the end?

Mick Jagger – Whistle Test Special: It’s Only Rock and Roll, BBC4, 10pm
THE Proms are dominating Friday nights on BBC4 but in between classical concerts, we’re being treated to a look back at Mick Jagger’s career. The centrepiece is a 1985 interview with David Hepworth about making music with and without the Rolling Stones, but of course he’s kept rocking for 33 more years since, so there are clips and videos to span his entire career. There’s more vintage Jagger at 12.20am with The Rolling Stones at the BBC.

Jane McDonald & Friends, C5, 9pm
THIS week, the friends in question include Gilbert O’Sullivan, the hugely successful singer-songwriter who gave the world hits including Clair, Alone Again (Naturally) and Get Down. Jane will also be joined by Leee John and Any Dream Will Do winner-turned-West End and Holby City star Lee Mead. But while that’s a decent line-up, regular viewers will know there’s zero chance they’ll manage to upstage the host.

8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, C4, 9pm
IT’S often claimed panel shows don’t feature enough women, but a couple of weeks ago 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown attempted to redress the balance with an all-female edition that saw Katherine Ryan taking Jimmy Carr’s place in the presenter’s chair. This week, the two women on the regular editions Rachel Riley and Susie Dent are joined by a third female, as Roisin Conaty returns. She’ll be teaming up with guest captain Jimmy Carr to take on regular Sean Lock and Miles Jupp. Meanwhile, hospital radio DJ Ivan Brackenbury – aka comedian Tom Binns – is in Dictionary Corner.
