Here, those convicted of crimes try to convince some of the most powerful judges they were wronged. It’s an emotive time for all involved, from those hoping to clear their names, the victims and, in some cases, their loved ones, who face the horror of what happened again. In this documentary, cameras chart three cases, the first two involving causing death by dangerous driving and murder.

The Secret Life of Landfill: A Rubbish History, BBC4, 9pm
DR George McGavin and material scientist Zoe Laughlin are getting their hands dirty in this documentary, in which they explore the history of rubbish and discover that what we throw away can be revealing about how we live our lives. To do that, they’ll be heading to one of the UK’s largest landfill sites to conduct tests, before carrying out digs at historic refuse sites to chart the evolution of our throwaway culture.

Inside Alton Towers, C4, 9pm
IN June 2015, two carriages collided on one of the most popular rides at Alton Towers, injuring 16 people, five seriously. This documentary goes behind the scenes as the UK’s biggest theme park attempts to win back visitors with the launch of their multi-million pound new roller coaster, Wicker Man. The film meets the roller coaster junkies keen to try the new ride; and with exclusive access to the theme park, follows the team at Alton Towers as they battle with the challenge of building a wooden structure that appears to burst into flames.

Keeping Faith, BBC1, 9pm
FOLLOWING the crash, Williams resorts to dirty tricks to divert attention away and shift the blame on to Faith, while Terry looks into Dr Alpay’s background and finds an ally in DCI Parry. Steve risks returning to his criminal past, Delyth makes a shocking discovery in Evan’s will, and Faith and Cerys push for a court hearing to get the children back.
