Scott Brown has hailed the band of Bhoys spirit that has defined Celtic's Slovenian training camp so far.

Away for almost two weeks for their four pre-season games, the Hoops squad will have quality time together as they get to know new manager Brendan Rodgers without any distractions.

Parkhead captain Brown acknowledges it is difficult to be away from your family for such a long period, but he has underlined the importance of such a trip ahead of a momentous season.

“There’s not too much more to do than train and go out there and work hard,” he said.

“You get your rest, you get your recovery in your room so it’s good to get away, especially with new faces coming in.

“You sit down, have dinner, breakfast and lunches together, just chatting and it’s good for camaraderie. It’s two weeks out your life where you don’t get to see your kids or your family but it’s huge for us to get as close as we possibly can.

“If you like each other then you work that little bit harder for everybody and if your mate’s out of position you’ll work that little bit harder to get in and cover for them so it’s a good two weeks out of the schedule."

Brown also told the Celtic website: “It’s all about having a close bond and if you can bring the players together you can bring the families together and it definitely helps as you get a lot more respect from and for each other when you’re sitting down chatting with each other.

“We are a close group but we’re bringing in new players now, which will be good for competition but, that bond is huge for everybody and if they can come in and play and learn as much as we have in the last two weeks then it’ll be a great impact for us.”

Meanwhile, forward Patrick Roberts is thrilled to be reunited with former Fulham team-mate Moussa Dembele.

The French starlet is expected to jet out today to meet his new Celtic team-mates, and Roberts said: “I know what he’s capable of and the same goes for him, so maybe that swayed it.

“I text him the other day when I saw the story but he just got back to me yesterday, saying ‘I signed’.

“He actually sent me a picture of my shirt in the changing room! It was funny.

“It was a shock but it’s good to have him in the squad."
