NEW York-based, Paris-born DJ/producer Joakim is the head of the Tigersushi and Crowdspacer labels. He'll be playing either some, none, or all of these tracks during his DJ set at Healthy at the Berkeley Suite in Glasgow on Friday night (August 12), his first show in the city for over five years.

Paul Haig - Something Good (Extended Version)

An important Scottish musician I guess, member of one of the best punk/post-punk Scottish bands, Josef K, on the mythical Postcard Records, then had his solo career on various labels including the also mythical Disques Du Crepuscule. Sounds a bit like a Superpitcher track in the beginning. Melancholic and epic. Mythical innit?

Simple Minds - Celebrate (Extended Version)

One of those great early songs by Simple Minds, who incorporated synths and electronic sounds into their post punk, probably under the influence of their producer Steve Hillage (of Gong fame) who produced the instrumental classic Theme For Great Cities but didn't produce Celebrate (another big producer, John Leckie, did).

Bronski Beat - Smalltown Boy (Extended Version)

An all-time favorite 80s new wave/disco song. The super long intro of the Extended Version is just incredible.

Hell Interface - Midas Touch

An 80s pop hit revisited by Boards Of Canada under their Hell Interface alias. It works so perfectly. Why didn't that happen more often??

Slam - Positive Education

Classic muscular early 90s techno from Glasgow by the co-founders of Soma. Brings back memories of when I started DJing (a few years later) You can clearly hear the Detroit influence on early Scottish electronic music in there.

Joakim plays alongside Woodlands auteur Ewan Chambers at Healthy at The Berkeley Suite, Glasgow on Friday night, 11pm to 3am, £4.
