SATURDAY’S highlight in Glasgow is undoubtedly Vancouver pair Pender Street Steppers’ keenly awaited show at Region Free at Glasgow School of Art on Saturday (£8/£10). Bake and Ryan Martin support the Mood Hut duo.
Elsewhere, the Berkeley Suite hosts one of the most exciting Sunday-night shows in the city for a long time as DJ Sprinkles, aka Terre Thaemlitz, guests at Fenix (£8/£10). Another legend can be found through in Paisley on Saturday in the shape of Mr C, above, founder of Superfreq and erstwhile frontman for The Shamen (£10).
Over in the capital, Phonik welcomes Drumcode and Tronic producer Enrico Sangiuliano to La Belle Angele tomorrow night (10.30pm to 5am, £10), with residents Ashley Shabz, Mark Santangelo and Sean Whelan supporting.
In Bannockburn, Magic Sun Festival (noon to 11pm) promises to be a treat on Saturday. It’s at the town’s Corbiewood Race Track, and features well over a dozen DJs, including Jelly Roll Soul, Shapes and Main Ingredient.
All clubs run from 11pm to 3am unless otherwise stated.
LONDON five-piece SULK bring their slightly shoegazey atmospherics to Glasgow’s Hug & Pint on Friday (7.30pm, £6.50), with support from Black Cat Revue and Noah. Rising roots singer/songwriter Luke Jackson plays the same venue on Sunday (7.30pm, £7).
In Edinburgh, Summerhall has an array of quality offerings over the next week. Tonight finds Willis Earl Beal bringing the rich blues and soul of his recent Nocturnes LP (8pm, £12), while Orkestra Del Sol bring their brassy street music tomorrow (7pm, £12).
Glasgow synth-rock quintet White play on Saturday (7pm, £12), while Billy Bragg, left, & Joe Henry (Monday, 6.30pm, sold out) and Mark Fell and Okkyung Lee (Wednesday, 8pm, £8/10) also feature in an impressive run of shows under the decidedly knowing Nothing Ever Happens Here banner.
On Wednesday at the Playhouse, meanwhile, ANONHI, the artist formerly known as Antony from Antony and the Johnsons, plays her new album Hopelessness, on which she worked with Oneohtrix Point Never and Hudson Mohawke among others (8pm, £10 to £30).
