GLASGOW’S Riverside Museum is to bring roller skating, skateboarding, BMX biking and the already-established Blue Light Festival together across three weekends in September.

After last year’s Blue Light emergency services event, which attracted record visitor numbers of more than 20,000 people across one weekend, the museum has expanded it and added the Festival of Wheels, which celebrates wheels of all descriptions.

Weekend one (September 3 and 4) will find the Riverside teaming up with music promoter Electric Frog to host its first outdoor roller disco. Soul music star Candi Staton, Studio 54 legend Jellybean Benitez and DJs Todd Terje, Dimitri from Paris and Jazzie B of Soul II Soul will all play over the weekend. Ahead of the adult roller disco sessions, families can skate with their children in the morning and early afternoon.

The second weekend will see Riverside and Clan Skates join forces to bring skate and BMX enthusiasts an array of lessons, pro-skater and bmx-biker demonstrations and the opportunity to show off their skills on a specially constructed ramp.

On September 17 and 18 representatives from all of Scotland’s emergency services will come together at the Museum for the second Blue Light Festival, the biggest display of its kind in Scotland.

Councillor Archie Graham, Chair of Glasgow Life, said: “Whether your passion is roller skating, skateboarding or BMX-ing or, if like me you prefer to leave these to the younger generation, but enjoy finding out more about the incredible work our emergency services do, you’re sure to find something of interest this September.” Further details at www.glasgowmuseums.com.
