SNP MPs were the “hardest working” at Westminster last year, figures show.

The data is based on levels of participation in parliamentary debates. Members of the SNP group spoke in an average of 64 debates during 2016, compared with 43 for Labour MPs and 38 for Tory politicians, according to data compiled by the House of Commons Library.

Use of the words “Scotland” or “Scottish” has also increased from an average of 1,493 times per year between 2012 and 2015 to 3,733 times in the year since the SNP’s landslide General Election result.

Deidre Brock, who represents Edinburgh North and Leith, said: “For the number of times the word Scotland has been mentioned to increase so significantly is remarkable.

“The number of MPs representing Scottish constituencies in Westminster has not increased, but instead these figures speak volumes about our predecessors and Scottish Labour’s downfall.”
