LOCH Lomond & the Trossachs is in the running for the title of National Park of the Year.

The only Scottish site shortlisted, it has been selected along with the Yorkshire Dales, the Peak District, South Downs and Snowdonia by the BBC’s Countryfile Magazine.

The winner will be announced in March following a public vote.

Gordon Watson, chief executive of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, called the nomination an “honour”.

With its headquarters in Balloch, West Dunbartonshire, the park covers 720 square miles, including 21 Munros, two forest parks and the Great Trossachs Forest, which is the largest National Nature Reserve in the UK.
