Cappadox, Cappadocia, May 18-21
Cappadox can lay claim to one of the most spectacular settings of any festival in the world: the lunar landscape of volcanic rock formations in Cappadocia, in the Central Anatolia region of Turkey. Its lineup isn’t bad either, with Mehmet Aslan, Peter Broderick and Acid Pauli on the bill, plus daily sunrise and sunset concerts and separate contemporary art and gastronomy-focused strands

Lente Kabinet, Amsterdam, May 27

The National:

Amsterdam’s wildly successful Dekmantel crew are rightly best-known for their August festival and record label of the same name, but their one-day Lente Kabinet festival is as wonderful and well-executed as anything else they’ve ever put their name to. Taking place in the beautiful Het Twiske recreational area just to the north of the city, this year’s Lente Kabinet features Powell, Palms Trax, Soichi Terada, The Black Madonna and a couple of dozen more names of similarly dizzying quality

Nuits Sonores, Lyon, May 24-28

The National:

Lyon’s Nuits Sonores has been taking over the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes capital at the end of May for many years now, and has carved out a fearsome reputation in the process. A government-backed five-day blowout taking in workshops, talks, screenings and art as well as a 50-venue programme of music, this year’s edition is guest curated by The Black Madonna, John Hopkins and Nina Kraviz. The festival has a record of inviting lesser-known, quality Scottish acts over, and recent National feature subjects Mr TC are booked to play on night four

Primavera Sound, Barcelona, May 31-June 4

The National:

Neither the city of Barcelona nor Primavera Sound itself are likely to require much in the way of selling at this point. Although weekend tickets have sold out, individual day tickets are still available for a perennially excellent festival, the bill for which has caused a particular stir this year. Front 242, Mogwai and Aphex Twin are three of several-dozen top picks

Love Saves The Day, Bristol, May 27-28

The National:

Closer to home, Bristol’s Love Saves The Day began in 2012 and has gradually established itself as a must-attend celebration of the quality and diversity of a city that has always punched above its weight musically. Hunee, Ricardo Villalobos and Jessy Lanza are likely to provide some of the best moments over the festival’s two days
