EASTER bonnets created by young patients at Edinburgh’s Sick Kids Hospital are being given a royal seal of approval from Princess Beatrice.

She’s helping the Sick Kids Friends Foundation (SKFF), of which she is the royal patron, pick winning entries to its annual hat decorating competition.

The charity will gift the bare bonnets and craft materials to all children staying in the hospital over Easter, then a bonnet parade will be held on Facebook and Beatrice will help choose the winners.

Fiona O’Sullivan, SKFF’s arts programme manager, said: “We’re very pleased to be able to contribute the materials to make this activity happen and we’d like to say a huge thank you in advance to Princess Beatrice for judging the bonnet parade for us.

“This is just one of the many activities we provide to ensure children and young people’s lives are less interrupted by illness, they are less scared of hospital and have a more positive experience.”

The SKFF supports the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh and has contributed more than £3 million towards its move to a new, purpose-built home at Little France next year.
