MEET Alastair Majury, the new Tory councillor for Dunblane, who for years has used an anonymous twitter account to spout abuse at anyone who disagrees with his staunch unionist world view.

Using the name Mulder1981, Majury has compared the SNP to Nazis, and accused Nicola Sturgeon of spending too much time talking about gay marriage.

The businessman, who was elected as the councillor for Dunblane and Bridge of Allan last Thursday, also uses a niche adult dating website for men who claim to have big penises, where the Tory boasts about the size of his manhood, claiming it’s “7-8 inches” long, with a “medium to thick girth,“ and repeatedly asks for women to contact him.

“I can’t believe that most women would be satisfied with less than 5inches (or even less than 6?), other than in ‘other ways’,” he says in one forum.

But it is his acerbic twitter profile rather than his penis that he is best known for.

During the referendum on independence, researchers at the University of Glasgow’s Policy Scotland institute named the Mulder1981 account as one of the most influential on social media for the no side.

His tweets were often venemous with the activist using the anonymity of Mulder1981 to say things he probably wouldn't from the account bearing his name. But over the weekend Majury's identity was uncovered by twitter user Gavmacn who passed details on to The National.

In 2013, the now Tory councillor tweeted,”SNP to [sic] busy talking about nuclear weapons Gay Marriage when they should be tackling Scotlands Poverty” .

In another he attacked Start Up Stirling, a homelessness charity in the city, dismissing it because it’s “run by a Snat [Scottish nationalist].”

“Sally Army does food bank and did them pre-Start Up,” he added.

In another tweet he says Nazis is an “accurate description” for “Snats”.

In 2014, he said: “All those that didn’t vote Yes didn’t support the message of division and hatred that Yes stood for.”

The Brexit backer, who admits voting Ukip in 2014, also claims immigration is high because British people would rather be on benefits: “I understand some farmers rely on immigrants as Brits would rather be on £26k+ benefits then pick potatoes, etc.”

A spokesman for the Scottish Conservatives said: “The comments highlighted are completely unacceptable, and Cllr Majury apologises sincerely for any upset they have caused. He has been warned in no uncertain terms that this kind of conduct cannot be repeated.”

An SNP spokesman said: “This is yet another example of the Tories welcoming an abusive extremist into their party, emerging just days after Mr Majury was elected. People across Stirling will be deeply concerned that someone with this kind of opinion is now in charge of running their local public services and local schools.

“The Tories have become UKIP - they must take immediate action to show that this kind of opinion is not tolerated in their party.”

Green MSP Ross Greer, who was often a target of Majury's trolling, said: "It would be funny if it weren't so tragic that this is the calibre of people the Tories have put forward to run local services like our schools.

"I imagine that 'Mulder1981' is far from the last revelation about this newly elected batch of Conservatives but it says a lot that someone whose conduct is so bizarre and who could not even effectively disassociate themselves from their 'anonymous' account is the best the Conservatives have to offer Stirling.

"Between this and the weekend's revelations, their party needs to urgently confirm if any vetting of candidates took place at all.

"I'm sure his constituents would also benefit from some kind of explanation from this councillors for his behaviour and confirmation that he'll focus more on their needs than pursuing his constitutional obsession as an Internet troll."Cllr Majury did not respond to The National’s request for a comment but has since deleted the Mulder1981 account.

Questions have been asked about the ability of the Tories to vet the party members putting themselves forward for election.

A number of candidates were criticised for extreme views during the campaign. Despite this, many of them were elected last Thursday.

Strathtay councillor Ian James praised Enoch Powell during the Conservative leadership contest when he asked: “Where are the political characters like Churchill, Nye Bevan and Enoch Powell or Margaret Thatcher?”

Former Tory MP Powell called for curbs on immigration and the repatriation of non-white immigrants in his infamous 1968 ‘Rivers of Blood’ speech. James later apologised for his remarks.

Aberdeenshire councillor Ron McKail also issued an apology after sharing social media posts by far-right groups Britain First and the English Defence League. He claimed he didn’t know the source of the pro-military messages and insisted he is “not that savvy with social media”.

Paisley councillor Neill Graham was forced to deny that he was previously a member of the British National Party after his contact details were found on a leaked BNP database. The 26-year-old also insisted he would be able to represent Catholic voters, despite sharing posts from an account on Facebook called ‘Proud to be a Protestant banter’.

Newly elected Keith and Cullen Conservative councillor Donald Gatt said the SNP should provide free condoms rather than free school meals. “If you can’t afford children, buy Durex,” he said in a speech.

Fife Cllr Kathleen Leslie previously described Nicola Sturgeon as a “drooling hag”.
