AN unsigned musician hopes her big break will help unwanted animals find new homes.

A song by student Megan D was selected as the soundtrack for the latest TV advert from the Scottish SPCA.

Originally from Edinburgh, the 21-year-old guitarist and singer attends City of Glasgow College and was chosen thanks to a track played on a local radio station several years ago.

It stuck in the mind of a Scottish SPCA staff member, who called the station to get Megan’s details.

Now a new recording of the song, entitled Every Song That I Sing, is available for download from the Bandcamp website, with a share of the proceeds going to the animal charity.

The advert, which features cats and dogs in need of health care and loving homes, aired on STV yesterday as the Scottish SPCA renewed an appeal for public support.

Chief Superintendent Mike Flynn said: “We’ve been looking to update our television advert for a while now, but we were never able to find the right music.

“A colleague had heard the song on a local radio station a few years ago, and taken the time to call the station to find out who the artist behind the song was.

“As soon as we heard the song we realised we had found the one and made contact with Megan.”

Megan, who grew up in Portobello, posed with dog Marley for pictures, saying: “As an animal lover, I was honoured to receive a message asking if Scottish SPCA could use my song as part of their TV campaign.

“Having watched the advert through, it seems like a perfect fit, almost as if it had been written for that purpose.

“As I was recording the song in the studio I felt very proud to be doing something to help such a worthwhile cause.”

Flynn added: “We are very grateful that Megan allowed us to use her music.

“She is a very talented musician and we wish her all the very best in her career.”

The advert can be seen on the Scottish SPCA’s YouTube page and more details on Megan can be found at facebook.com/megandmusic.
