A VIGIL will be held this evening near London Bridge for the victims of Saturday’s terror attack.

London mayor Sadiq Khan has invited Londoners and visitors to join him at Potters Fields Park at 6pm to remember the seven people who died and show sympathy for their loved ones, support for the injured and gratitude to the police and emergency workers.

The mayor will be joined by senior representatives of the Metropolitan Police, the British Transport Police, London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade and civic, faith and community leaders.

The vigil will include a minute’s silence at 6.20pm, following a minute’s silence held across the country at 11am this morning.

Khan said: “By standing together as a city we will send a powerful message here and around the world – that Londoners will never be cowed by terrorism.”

He added: “I want to express my deepest gratitude on behalf of all Londoners to the police and emergency services for the speed and bravery of their response.

“Once again they ran towards danger while encouraging others to run to safety. All Londoners are grateful for their efforts. Our city – the greatest city in the world – will never forget the innocent victims who lost their lives. As a city we will stand united against terror.”

The British Red Cross has launched a new fund to help ensure victims and their families do not face short-term financial difficulties.
