LIBERAL Democrat Alistair Carmichael has retained his Orkney and Shetland seat with 11,312 votes.

Carmichael, who has served since 2001 and was Scottish Home Secretary from 2013 to 2015, was accused of misleading voters with a memo claiming Nicola Sturgeon would rather see David Cameron remain Prime Minister.

Judges refused legal action to challenge his 2015 election win.

Carmichael said the results across Scotland show “there’s no appetite for a second independence referendum”.
