AMBITIOUS plans to launch a Disney-style space centre on the edge of Kinross looks set for lift-off after a community share offer reached 98 per cent of its £50,000 target.

The idea for the Aero Space Kinross project, a themed aviation, astronomy and space flight science centre, was brainchild of former glider pilot Alisdair Stewart. It also has the support of TV celebrity Carol Vorderman.

Stewart hopes to transform a vacant plot on the outskirts of the town into a major tourist attraction, telling the story and science of flight and space exploration.

Once up and running, he believes the aerospace centre could potentially attract around 60,000 visitors each year.

Stewart, who is chairman at Aero Space Kinross said: “We launched our share offer back in April with the support of TV celebrity Carol Vorderman.

“We are now at 98 per cent of our minimum target of £50,000 for our Aero Space Kinross Community Share Offer, with just a few days to go to our closing date on June 30.

“Over the last few weeks we have grown to a community of over 600 registered friends and are calling out for more investors, as well as friends to buy “stars” to smash through the finishing line this coming Friday.”

Aero Space Kinross has been running its a special star offer — giving people in the Perth and Kinross community and further afield, a chance to get involved by pledging to buy a “star” for display on a Wall of Stars.

It’s a way to give people the chance to pledge smaller amounts of money and become part of the share project.
