SUPPORTERS are being asked for their views on the governance of Scottish football to form an independent analysis of how the game is run.

The Scottish Football Supporters Association (SFSA) hopes the national survey will become an annual benchmark for all aspects of the game, including the work of the SFA and SPFL.

Launched at an event at the Scottish Parliament yesterday, the online survey has been created in partnership with two German academics, Dr Axel Faix and Dr Joachim Lammert, who have carried out similar evaluations on German football.

The survey assesses the performance of the Scottish national teams, the promotion of women’s football and commercial partnerships with football authorities.

The SFSA, whose board includes former first minister Henry McLeish, former MP and MSP Cathy Jamieson, and Maureen McGonigle, founder of Scottish Women in Sport, has over 68,000 members supporting clubs across Scotland.

The survey is open for a month until August 20.

Simon Barrow, chairman of the SFSA, said: “The Scottish game has had a governing body for 144 years and in that time its performance has never been publicly evaluated.

“Unlike most industries there is no watchdog, no independent evaluation or review of performance on how the game is run.

“There are many issues within the game that fans have real concerns about but as it stands the governance rules within the game mean that no-one outside knows if a good job is being done by the SFA and the SPFL or not.”
