THOUSANDS of families are expected to spend a night under the stars when RSPB Scotland’s Big Wild Sleepout returns for its fifth year this weekend.

The charity says there is a good chance campers will spot some interesting creatures, as warm, dry weather throughout much of June and July has led to an eruption in sightings of nocturnal wildlife including moths, invertebrates, bats, badgers, owls, and hedgehogs.

The sleepout is part of Wild Challenge, the RSPB’s free, year-round nature adventure for families, under which they can collect rewards by completing a series of activities and logging their achievements on the RSPB Wild Challenge website.
