A £25 million pound project to celebrate Scottish motorsport has been boosted by the formation of a charitable trust.

The Scottish National Motorsport Heritage Centre at the historic Rest and Be Thankful hillclimb and rally stage in Argyll will display classic cars and honor past greats of the sport such as Jackie Stewart and Colin McRae.

Hundreds of tonnes of rock will need to be burrowed to build the centre, which is planned to be dramatically set into the hillside at the classic hairpin at the top of the Rest. A scale model is already on display at the Lighthouse arts and architectural centre in Glasgow and the public are being asked for their comments and support.

The project is the brainchild of Douglas Anderson, the Dundee man responsible for the return of the Monte Carlo Rally to Scotland over recent years.
