The United States is experiencing a rare total solar eclipse.

Twitter have teamed up with the Weather Channel to livestream the incredible event. You can watch it live in the embedded tweet above!

During the eclipse the Moon will pass over the Sun, which will cast a shadow across America from Oregon to South Carolina.

The last time this spectacular event took place was in 1918, when the path of the moon's shadow crept across the planet and crossed both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts.

Those lucky enough to have a clear sky who are in the path of the deepest shadow will experience the eclipse for up to two minutes and 40 seconds.
