THE Scottish people have been quite clear in their intent by returning pro-independence parties to power in three areas – the EU, Westminster and Holyrood – for many years.

Call an election now with a single mandate: independence.

The result will be clear and strong enough for Scotland to apply directly to the UN for help in achieving our democratic rights. I am certain that the UN, the EU, the WTO and the Council of Europe will support and assist our move away from Westminster and assist in the settlement. It would not, under those circumstances, be UDI [unilateral declaration of independence] but the UN Charter makes it quite clear that our right to independence is being unlawfully usurped by Westminster and that our collection of MEPs, MPs and MSPs would be enough for those world bodies to assist in the transfer of responsibilities back to Scotland.

The UN and the EU are very aware of the disgraceful way Westminster has been treating Scotland and of the way the mainstream media has been used against us. They are waiting for us to make this positive move so they may help. I had been concerned that Westminster would constrain the Scottish Government the moment Brexit was completed but I was wrong.

They have started that process now with this repeal, and they are intent on completely dismantling the devolution for Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. We are running out of time.

A single issue election now please. For the very survival of Scotland and the Scots.

ONCE again the Maybot showed her disdain and loathing for the shire of the north: Scotland. During PMQs on Wednesday when she was pressed by Ian Blackford about stagnant and continued low wages she made a cheap, lazy and completely inaccurate response, when she tried to shift the blame of all the country’s woes on to the SNP and the Scottish Government. She had the brass neck to tell Blackford that he should “look at what is happening to the Scottish economy under an SNP government, because it is an SNP government that is failing the people of Scotland”.

Is she so uninformed about the state of the Scottish economy or is it more likely that she doesn’t give a toss, and will just revert to Maybot mode and trundle out all the “SNP baad” rhetoric? Let’s make some points clear to her: the Scottish economy outperformed the UK economy as a whole, our unemployment figures continue to fall, and we have an SNP Government that has just laid out a progressive and ambitious programme of government for the next few years. A government that has and continues to try and mitigate the horrors of her austerity programme, that is outward looking and trying to form useful partnerships with other like-minded countries. Tell me, does this sound like a government that is failing its people? Does this sound like a government that is not doing its day job? I think not. It would serve May well if she were to spend a little more time looking at the relevant statistics and a little less time polishing and regurgitating her tired and worn sound bites.

And as for her ridiculous claim that Scotland has “a strong voice in this House through our 13 Conservative members of Parliament”, it took me quite a while to stop the uncontrollable laughter that that statement induced, but when I regained control, I realised she was serious! The famous, or infamous, 13 will simply sit there, vote how they are instructed by the whips, occasionally stand to make some tired and dated “SNP baad” remark, then go home. It beggars belief that these non-entities will ever put the needs of Scotland or their own constituencies before the needs of their mistress. They are not fit for purpose and I say again, those who voted them in should keep a close watch on how their wonderful Tory MP performs in the Commons on their, and the country’s behalf. It is a fair bet that by the time of the next election, they will have been exposed as the phonies they are and will be ousted from their seats at the next election. Please do not make the same mistake again.

YOUR recent coverage of Spain’s ruthless attempts to crush the will of the people of Catalonia is clear evidence of Madrid’s determination to throttle democracy whatever it takes (Police to probe Catalan civic heads as Spain cracks down on referendum vote ban, The National, Sep 14). I note that “Catalan MEPs urged the European Commission to investigate the Spanish Government moves to stop the referendum”.

I wish them luck but fear that their pleas will fall on deaf ears because the EU will support the “national” government of Spain despite its imperialism. The EU will never support the efforts of small countries to free themselves from larger, dominant countries. The EU did not support the cause of Scottish independence but did everything in its power to prevent it.

Yet this supremely anti-democratic union is one which the Scottish Government is determined to gain entry to. Surely it is obvious that if we were successful we would only be freeing ourselves from one autocracy to deliver ourselves into another.

We would be better off forging links with the Arctic Circle, as you report in your article about the “New North” (Conference to highlight Scotland’s links to ‘New North’, Sep 14) and heed Lesley Riddoch’s advice in her piece, “Northern lights can help guide us on our future path” (The National, Sep 14).
