HEARTS new boy Ross Callachan says he always knew he would be a Ladbrokes Premiership hit.

The boyhood supporter has made a dream start to life in Gorgie since sealing a deadline-day switch from Raith Rovers.

The 24-year-old midfielder was named man of the match on his debut against Aberdeen last week then followed that up by scoring the opener in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Hamilton.

And, having stepped up from League One, Callachan insists he had no doubts he could handle the jump in quality in the top flight.

“I’ve always been quite a confident individual and I have a lot of self-belief. I know what I’m good at. I thought the way I play would have suited the Premiership. In the two games, that has showed," said Callachan.

“It’s been brilliant. Getting man of the match last week and then a goal [on Saturday]... It makes it a lot sweeter. I’m happy with the way I’ve started and with the way the team has played.”

Hearts looked to be in complete control when Callachan’s third-minute tap-in was followed up by a Kyle Lafferty penalty soon after.

But they let the home side get a foothold in midfield as former Hearts winger David Templeton began to pull the strings along with Ali Crawford.

Rakish Bingham profited from Templeton’s industry to pull a goal back on 34 minutes.

The hosts’ efforts were hampered when they lost Templeton early in the second half with an ankle knock and, while they fought bravely, Martin Canning’s men were unable to draw level.

Now the Hamilton boss hopes Templeton can make a speedy recovery.

“He was excellent,” Canning said. “He hurt his ankle in the first half with a block tackle but at half-time it stiffened up.

“He wanted to go back out and give it a go. I thought he started well but he then gave me a shout to say he was struggling so he had to come off. It was a blow because in a game like that, when it’s compact, he’s got the quick feet and a bit of imagination that can get you something."
