The Old Town residence tops a list which is dominated by Edinburgh, where six of the 10 are located.

However, other locales also get a look-in – the “mini-castle” Gatehouse to Ayton Castle in Eyemouth is in second place, followed by 10-bed Dairsie Castle near St Andrews and a tin-roofed “bothy by the sea” at Waternish on Skye.

The Ochils Edge glamping hut at Forgandenny, near Perth, comes in 10th.
