SADIQ Khan, Labour Mayor of London, said that London needs a special deal on immigration from the EU as it was the only region in the UK to vote Remain!
Sadly, he does not realise that Scotland was the only country in the four-nation UK that voted to remain and every local authority area here returned a Yes vote. Northern Ireland also voted to remain. I am certain the Labour delegates from Scotland will correct him?
Does the political nous of the London Mayor stop at Watford Gap? It goes to show just how uber-London-centric, England-centric Labour have now become after a gaffe like that.
Given Labour’s Janus-like view of the EU and the underlying splits within it, where Jeremy Corbyn is an advocate for exit from the single market and customs union, and others like Starmer hold up chimeras promising to influence and negotiate a “reformed single market” from the outside after exit, one must question the integrity of Labour.
As the UK has been dragged out by the English and Welsh vote, the EU’s view is simply that is your choice. The integrity of the EU remains the sole prerogative of the 27. Is Labour weaving a tangled web to deceive for future electoral gain? It cannot guarantee change for our benefit from outside! All things to all “comrades” outwardly, but devious inwardly?
Brexit means Brexit with reduced benefits, if any, in any new deal.

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
