EDINBURGH Council is to publish a plan on how the local authority will support EU citizens during the uncertainty of the Brexit process.

The council’s Corporate Policy and Strategy Committee also agreed that council leader Adam McVey will write to the UK Government setting out opposition to any erosion of EU citizens’ employment rights within the UK after Brexit and opposing measures such as the register of EU nationals.

The motion noted that 74 per cent of Edinburgh voters who took part in the referendum in June last year voted to remain in the EU, and called for welcome and advice services for EU nationals in Edinburgh.

The council will also work with key employers in the cityto help recruitment and retention and will work to resist barriers to travel and keep close links with Europe.
