SCOTLAND coach Grant Bradburn revealed his pride as his side made history in the draw against Papua New Guinea in Port Moresby.

The Saltires registered their highest first-class score on the final day of the ICC Intercontinental Cup tie, with their total of 514 surpassing the previous best 489 set in 1954.

Richie Berrington’s best of 129 on day three ensured Scotland claimed first innings points to ultimately come out on top as PNG finished on 263 for three before the sides shook hands on an early draw.

Bradburn told cricketscotland.com: “Very proud of our boys to perform like they have done for the last four days on the other side of the world. It’s not easy to come to these sorts of conditions.”

Mark Watt (61 not out) extended Scotland’s overnight lead before they were bowled out, but any hopes of sneaking a victory were dampened by the PNG batsmen.

Alasdair Evans claimed an early wicket, but Lega Siaka (83), Tony Ura (75) and Assad Vala (61 not out) ensured the game finished as a draw, with Scotland moving ahead of their opponents thanks to the first innings points.
