ARMED forces charities and the arts will benefit from a record £1 million in donations raised by the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo after another sell-out run of the capital’s most successful annual event.

The 68th annual show had a cast of more than 1200 musicians, performers and dancers appearing on Edinburgh Castle’s esplanade throughout August.

The money will be split between 17 arts and armed forces organisations, including the RAF Benevolent Fund, ABF – The Soldiers’ Charity, Combat Stress and the Scottish National War Memorial.

The arts funding of £275,000 will help support traditional music and Highland dancing, establish a Tattoo talent development fund and support Edinburgh City Council’s culture project.

This was the second year in which the event was able to pledge donations of more than £1m.
