A NASA scientist who led the review into the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster is to share his patient safety lessons with Scottish health professionals.

Flight safety manager Dr Nigel Packham will visit the Planetarium in Glasgow today to address a 120-strong audience.

He will speak to health workers about how lessons from Nasa’s research could be applied to health and social care in Scotland.

It will focus on minimising risk to patients and improving on the safety and quality of their experience in care.

The event, organised by Healthcare Improvement Scotland, is part of a series of seminars which aim to connect health professionals with experts from all over the world.

The session will focus on risk management techniques using the Columbia accident as an example.
