MARTIN Canning was dismayed by his Hamilton Accies side’s sloppy distribution in their home Ladbrokes Premiership draw with Hibernian on Saturday but was pleased to grab a 1-1 draw that extended their unbeaten run to five games.

Hibs boss Neil Lennon claimed Accies’ approach to the game was “caveman stuff” and also criticised referee Don Robertson. Canning was happy at the way his team battled back after going behind to a Simon Murray strike before the break, with Antonio Rojano heading in a 72nd minute equaliser.

However, the manager is looking for improvement in their play when Accies visit Hearts on Saturday.

Canning said: “It has been a difficult spell of games and now we have Hearts, St Johnstone and Celtic, so it doesn’t get any easier.

“But with the confidence and belief we have from this run we know we can go to these places and win.

“So it is just making sure that we control the ball better. We have to pass the ball better. Having watched Hearts, I know it will be a difficult game but hopefully we can take points.”

Goalkeeper Gary Woods made a couple of crucial saves early in the second half when Hamilton were trailing 1-0 and playing badly.

He said: “That point, last year, we might have lost that 2-0 or 3-0. There is a different mentality in the team and we are looking up.”
