Strictly Come Dancing – The Final (BBC One, 6.30pm)

It may be on its 15th series, but Strictly is still capable of surprising us, whether it’s with Debbie McGee’s age-defying tango skills or the hotly tipped Aston Merrygold, who had looked like a guaranteed finalist, only to finish 10th after he was undone by a barbershop-themed Viennese Waltz. So, as we reach the highly anticipated final, featuring McGee, Alexandra Burke, Gemma Atkinson and Joe McFadden, are we in for any more shocks? We could well be, as although judges Shirley Ballas, Bruno Tonioli, Craig Revel Horwood and Darcey Bussell will be on hand to offer their opinions, it’s the public who get to choose the winner. But hopefully there will be some aspects of this show we can rely on – like the no-holds barred showdance and the return of the class of 2017 for a group number.

Feud: Bette and Joan (BBC Two, 9pm)

The rivalry between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford was the stuff of Hollywood legend. But as this new drama series from Ryan Murphy, who also brought us the acclaimed The People vs OJ Simpson: American Crime Story, reveals, the stars weren’t just battling each other – they also faced ageism and sexism as they tried to hang on to their success in the twilight of their careers. To bring this story of movie legends to the small screen, Murphy has recruited his own set of Oscar-winners, including Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange as Davis and Crawford. In the first of the opening double bill, Crawford tires of waiting for decent parts and decides to find one for herself. The novel Whatever happened to Baby Jane? seems to offer the perfect role – but she needs to recruit another big name to play her on-screen sister.
