Sports Personality of the Year 2017 (BBC One, 6.45pm)

It has been suggested that four-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton’s hopes of a knighthood may have taken a hit after the Paradise Papers scandal. And if the bookies’ odds are anything to go by, he may also be facing disappointment at the SPOTY show. The man to beat is heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua who has had a memorable year including a stunning win over Wladimir Klitschko in April and victory against Carlos Takam in October. So can Hamilton overtake his rival tonight, or will cyclist Chris Froome, swimmer Adam Peaty, tennis player Johanna Konta or cricketer Anya Shrubsole also have a say? Gary Lineker, Clare Balding and Gabby Logan present the results of the viewers’ vote from Liverpool’s Echo Arena.

The Apprentice (BBC One, 9pm)

After weeks of tough tasks, dodgy decision-making and boardroom backbiting, the final two contestants battle it out to be named Lord Sugar’s business partner. We have seen the candidates flip burgers, decorate a hotel room, programme a robot, entertain guests at Wembley Stadium, buy a birthday present for Lord Sugar, take tourists around Bruges, make a car advertisement, clean up dog mess, create a new recipe kit and sell clothes. Then, last week the wannabes were whittled down to just two after the dreaded interview stage. Now the pair of budding business moguls receive help from the rest of this year’s line-up as they put together a strategy for their business plan.
