MasterChef: The Professionals: The Finals BBC 2, 8pm
The search for a chef to be crowned MasterChef: Professionals champion 2017 is almost over, as the three finalists face one last challenge. They are given three hours to cook a starter, a main course and a dessert, each of which takes their culinary abilities to a whole new level, with flawless presentation and exciting flavours. Judges Marcus Wareing, Monica Galetti and Gregg Wallace assess their efforts, before deciding the winner.
Joanna & Jennifer: Absolutely Champers BBC 2, 9pm
Champagne was always the tipple of choice for Absolutely Fabulous characters Patsy Stone and Edina Monsoon. And it seems it’s a similar story off-screen for actresses Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders, who like nothing better than sharing a glass of bubbly. Now, they’re about to learn more about their favourite drink as they head to the Champagne region of north-eastern France to discover how it’s made. Along the way, they visit family-run vineyards, and join the seasonal workers who are dealing with this year’s grape harvest. The Ab Fab stars also discover a few things they didn’t know about each other as they share a few anecdotes and stories from their lives. And that’s definitely worth raising a glass too.
Gordon, Gino and Fred’s Great Christmas Roast STV, 9pm
Gordon Ramsay and Gino D’Acampo go head to head to create a Christmas banquet as a thank you to members of the emergency services who risked their lives and went beyond the call of duty in 2017. The chefs will be competing to produce the ultimate festive menu, with blind tastings determining the winner, while First Dates maitre ‘d Fred Sirieix ensures the guests of honour have a night to remember in the sumptuous surroundings of London’s Merchant Taylors’ Hall.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
